20% Of Indian Railways Tracks Now Supports 130Kmph Speed Trains – Trak.in

Indian Railways has upgraded over 23,000 track kilometers (TKM) to support speeds of 130 kmph, significantly enhancing connectivity and reducing travel times. Additionally, 54,337 kilometers of tracks now accommodate speeds up to 110 kmph, reflecting extensive modernization efforts.

Track Upgrades and Speed Enhancements

A senior official revealed that 23,000 TKM of the 1.03 lakh TKM rail network is now fit for 130 kmph speeds, thanks to improved safety measures like fencing and modern signaling. Further, 54,337 TKM supports speeds of up to 110 kmph, with 2,741 TKM already operational at this speed in the current fiscal.


Semi-High-Speed and Vande Bharat Progress

Major stretches of the Golden Quadrilateral are being upgraded for semi-high-speed trains, including the Vande Bharat Express, which can reach speeds of 160 kmph. These upgrades aim to facilitate faster and more efficient rail travel across India.


Financial and Operational Performance

Indian Railways reported a 4% increase in earnings and a 2% rise in capital expenditure during April–December of the current fiscal year, achieving total revenue of ₹1.93 lakh crore. Freight revenue reached ₹1.26 lakh crore, while passenger earnings grew by 6% to ₹55,988 crore.


Increased Train Services

Train services rose by 3%, hitting an all-time high of 2.07 million runs. Special train services during peak demand surged 54%, with the new timetable featuring 62 special trains and 34 pairs of Vande Bharat services.
