Vivo delivers stable Android 15 update ahead of Google and Samsung | Technology News

Google is usually the first company to roll out the latest stable version of Android updates, followed by brands like Samsung and OnePlus. This year, Vivo has outdone Google to become the first brand to release a stable Android 15 update to devices like the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro and the Vivo X100 series. Do note that Vivo will officially debut Funtouch OS 15 on September 30, while some devices have started to receive the update beforehand. We also expect to see the same update on select iQOO smartphones, which also run on Funtouch OS.

Google released the Android 15 AOSP build a few days ago, which is the base for all the custom Android skins such as OxygenOS, Funtouch OS, OneUI, Nothing OS, realme UI, ColorOS, HyperOS, and more.

Google has confirmed that the Pixel 9 series along with other eligible Pixel models will receive an Android 15 update in October, while Samsung is yet to release the beta build of OneUI 7, indicating the stable version of the same might not arrive anytime soon. Brands like OnePlus, Nothing, Xiaomi, and more are expected to update at least some of their devices to Android 15 by the end of 2024.

Funtouch OS 15, based on Android 15, will be one of the highly customised Android skins with several tweaks when compared to stock Android. As per the official changelog, Funtouch OS 15 offers a “smooth experience and additional customisation features.” The update also includes system-wide changes including optimisation of power consumption, system effects, and more.

It is also interesting to see that Vivo has delivered the latest Android update even to its foldable X Fold 3 Pro (review), which requires more tuning, as the software needs to be optimised for both the primary cover display and the foldable screen, and how apps interact while switching between the two.

Many devices from major smartphone brands should receive Android 15-based updates in the next few weeks. Again, flagship smartphones will be the first set of devices to receive the same, followed by mid-tier and entry-level smartphones.
