Roy Keane says United ‘average, boring’, Amorim will take ‘long time’ | Football News
Ruben Amorim expected to arrive from Sporting Lisbon later this month, may need a long time to take them back to the heights they once enjoyed, according to former Red Devils legend Roy Keane.
Responding to officially their worst-ever start to a season, the former captain joked on Sky Sports: “He should’ve signed a longer contract. It’s a long way back for this team. Look a new manager will come in and you hope he’ll get more out of this group but this is an average United team – all the stats back it up.”
Keane was scathing as ever, after Man Utd battled to a 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford with Bruno Fernandes ‘ opener cancelled out by Moises Caicedo, with Ruud van Nistelrooy still in charge. “We keep repeating ourselves, but you don’t know what you’ll get with them. Yes they could’ve won the game but there’s also a good chance they could lose it. Not good,” Keane stared.
He proceeded to dub them ‘boring.’
“Even when you’re watching. I hate saying it but this United team are almost a bit boring. The lack of conviction with all their chances. Really disappointed, so flat, but from the manager’s point of view, this team are way off it in terms of getting back to the top four and competing,” Keane said. He went on to add on Sky Sports that players might be rated higher than what they were: “As a team you look at them and certain individuals, we think they’re better than what they are. They’ve got international players and you hang a hat sometimes on a team having quality or being physical, but this United team are just average at everything.”
United ended up in eighth – their lowest-ever finish in the Premier League era last season. ,. And table toppers Liverpool secured a 3-0 win at Old Trafford earlier in another uninspiring display. The Portuguese manager has signed a three-year deal with the club.
