Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: Abhishek Sharma hits 28-ball century, equals record for fastest T20 hundred by India batter

India and Sunrisers Hyderabad batter Abhishek Sharma struck the joint-fastest T20 hundred by an Indian batter, reaching a ton in just 28 balls during Punjab’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Meghalaya on Thursday. Abhishek’s explosive knock, comprising 11 maximums, helped Punjab chase down the target of 143 runs in the 10th over.

The performance also broke the opener’s middling run in the tournament. Before the match on Thursday, Abhishek had scored 149 runs in six innings, managing just one score of fifty or more.

Gujarat’s Urvil Patel had created the record earlier in this tournament, managing a ton off 28 balls against Tripura in Indore.

Before this year’s edition, the fastest hundred in India’s domestic T20 competition belonged to Rishabh Pant, who struck a 32-ball hundred against Himachal Pradesh in 2018.

The record for the fastest hundred in T20 cricket belongs to Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan, who scored it in just 27 deliveries against Cyprus.
