The Chennai City police have registered a case against members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) for organising a protest against the sexual assault on a student of Anna University, by carrying a cloth dummy marked “DMK” and insisting that it be “treated for weakness” at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH).

A senior official of the City Police said a group of ABVP workers, represented by D. Yuvaraj of Avadi, the ABVP State secretary, and G. Sridhar of Purasawakkam, brought the cloth dummy to the second entrance of the RGGGH. It was meant to portray the Tamil Nadu government as being weak and needing admission in the hospital. Security personnel stopped the ABVP members at the entrance, stating they should not be staging a protest without permission, and sent them away.

Based on a complaint filed by the hospital authorities, a case was registered at the RGGGH police station for defaming the State government and organising a slanderous campaign, under three sections, against Yuvraj and Sridhar. The police are on the lookout for them.
