Brace up for warmer climate soon

Cool nights and warm days in Telangana are set to give way to a gradual rise in temperatures over the next few days. While northern regions experience chilly weather, it is unlikely to have much influence here.

People are already feeling a hint of warmth, with temperatures expected to climb by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius even as the official winter season will continue until the third week of February.

“We have been experienced less ‘westerly disturbances’ intensity for the last couple of years including the current winter season leading to not very cold conditions but only intermittent cold climate in peninsular India,” said senior weather consultant of Telangana Development Planning Society, Y.V. Rama Rao.

Coupled with this “unusual” climate phenomena is the “easterlies” from the Bay of Bengal towards Arabian Sea becoming more prominent than the western/ northerly winds leading to fairly “normal” temperatures and not very cold temperatures in central India and north Telangana region too, he said.

The “cold winds” from the north are not reaching Telangana leading to relatively normal temperatures because “deep westerlies are not there”. Yet, citizens may be feeling cold during the nights and early mornings because of “strong wind chill factor”, explained the meteorologist.

The minimum temperatures are already between 10-15 degrees C in the hinterlands whereas in the twin cities, they are hovering between 15 and 18 degrees C. Even during December, Hyderabad had registered below 10 degrees C just once. Sirpur in Kumaram Bheem district and Bela in Adilabad district recorded lowest minimum temperatures of 5.2 degrees C each on January 9 this year.

Mercury dipped below 10 degrees C for some time in districts like Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem-Asifabad, Nirmal, Mancherial, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Rajanna-Sircilla, etc. In the next few days, temperatures are likely to creep up to 18 degrees C at night in the capital region whereas in the districts, it could go up to 16-18 degrees C.

Day temperatures are likely to hover between 28 and 33 degrees C in the capital and 27-31 degrees C in other places, said Mr. Rao.
