Marcus Stoinis retires from One-Day Internationals
Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis announced his immediate retirement from One-Day Internationals (ODIs) on Thursday, opting to focus solely on T20 cricket.
“Playing ODI cricket for Australia has been an incredible journey, and I’m grateful for every moment I’ve had in the green and gold. Representing my country at the highest level is something I will always cherish,” Stoinis said in a statement.
“This wasn’t an easy decision, but I believe it is the right time for me to step away from ODIs and fully focus on the next chapter of my career. I have a fantastic relationship with Ron (Andrew McDonald), and I have hugely appreciated his support,” he added.
The 35-year-old had been named in Australia’s provisional squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan but will not take part in the tournament.
Stoinis played his final ODI against Pakistan in Perth in November 2024. Over the course of 71 matches, he scored 1,495 runs and took 48 wickets. He was part of Australia’s triumphant 2023 ODI World Cup-winning squad and was named the country’s ODI Cricketer of the Year for 2018-19.
