PM Modi to attend Jahan-e-Khusrau festival, calls it a ‘commendable effort’ to popularise Sufi music | India News

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the 25th edition of Jahan-e-Khusrau, the annual Sufi music festival, at Sunder Nursery in Delhi on February 28 at 7:30 pm. The event, organized by the Rumi Foundation and founded by filmmaker Muzaffar Ali, has been a major platform for Sufi music, poetry, and dance since 2001. The festival will run from February 28 to March 2.

Confirming his participation, PM Modi said in a post on X, “I will be attending Jahan-e-Khusrau at 7:30 PM tomorrow, 28th February at Sunder Nursery in Delhi. This is the 25th edition of the festival, which has been a commendable effort to popularise Sufi music and culture. I look forward to witnessing Nazr-e-Krishna during tomorrow’s programme. I compliment Muzaffar Ali Ji and the team of Rumi Foundation for their work in this field over the years.”

During the festival, Modi will also visit the TEH Bazaar (The Exploration of the Handmade), which will feature One District-One Product crafts, rare artifacts from across the country, and short films on handicrafts and handlooms.

Jahan-e-Khuserau

Established in 2001 under the guidance of the Rumi Foundation, Jahan-e-Khusrau was designed and directed by Muzaffar Ali and was the pioneer in presenting Sufi music in India, creating a large following over the years. The festival’s three mystical nights bring together musicians from India and around the world, performing in a seamless cinematic fashion. Participating countries include the United States, Canada, Germany, Italy, Morocco, Sudan, Egypt, Tunisia, Iran, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

Besides Delhi, Jahan-e-Khusrau has also been staged in Jaipur, Patna, Lucknow, Srinagar, Boston, and London.

An official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office states, “Prime Minister has been a strong proponent of promoting the diverse art and culture of the country. In line with this, he will participate in Jahan-e-Khusrau, which is an international festival dedicated to Sufi music, poetry, and dance. It is bringing together artists from across the world to celebrate the legacy of Amir Khusrau.”

Muzaffar Ali is best known for directing the 1981 film Umrao Jaan. Ali, a filmmaker, poet, artist, and cultural revivalist, is credited with spearheading a renaissance of Sufi music in India.
