With his side slipping to 12 for three, the 52-year-old Rahul stepped into bat with his son before suffering a leg discomfort two balls into his innings. Despite the pain, the-ever gritty Dravid senior put on a 66-ball 43-run stand with Anvay. The former India head coach, however, opted to retire hurt on 29 after reportedly suffering a calf muscle strain.
Dravid will be returning to the Royals dugout for the first time in 10 years. Dravid was the captain of the Royals in IPL 2012 and 2013 and then was the team director and mentor for them in the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Meanwhile, Rajasthan are scheduled to open their campaign against SunRisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad on March 23 and will play their first game at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on April 13.
