To improve working conditions, the government has announced the establishment of worker lounges in metropolitan cities, including Chennai and Coimbatore. These lounges will be equipped with essential facilities to offer gig workers a comfortable resting space between jobs.

Recognizing the need for skill development among the children of construction workers, Tamil Nadu will set up seven new Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in high-density construction worker areas. The new ITIs will be located in:

- Coimbatore (Perur)

These institutes will offer training in six different trades, benefiting an additional 1,370 students annually. The project, costing Rs 148 crore, will be funded by the Tamil Nadu Construction Workers Welfare Board.

The Tamil Nadu government has allocated Rs 1,975 crore for the Labour Welfare and Skill Development Department in the Budget Estimates for 2025-26. This funding will help implement these welfare initiatives and further enhance the state’s labor policies.
