The world of movies has lost an actor par excellence who could straddle action, comedy and drama with consummate ease. Actor Mukul Dev, who left an indelible mark on television, theatre and film passed away on May 23, 2025 at the age of 54. Mukul was the younger brother of actor and model Rahul Dev. He had debuted in the movie Dastak in 1996 alongside Sushmita Sen. 

With a career spanning three decades, Mukul Dev showcased his versatility in a wide range of roles. His memorable performances in TV shows like Gharwali Uparwali, A Mouthful Of Sky, Shhh… Phir Koi Hai and Kya Hadsaa Kya Haqeeqat demonstrated his skill as an actor. It allowed Mukul Dev to transition into film roles with notable movies like Yamla Pagla Deewana, Son Of Sardaar and Jai… Ho, highlighting his ability to adapt to diverse genres and characters. He also managed to work in South films alongside stars like Nagarjuna, Jr NTR and Ravi Teja.

In the recent years Mukul Dev was a sought-after name in Punjabi films having delivered solid performances in projects like Sarabha, Shaatar and Saak. Mukul Dev also wrote the screenplay of Hansal Mehta and Rajkummar Rao’s acclaimed hit Omerta.

Dev comes from a family with a strong presence in the entertainment industry. His brother, Rahul Dev, is a well-known actor who has made a name for himself in Indian film and television. The brothers shared a close bond, and their family’s support played a significant role in Mukul Dev’s success. Mukul Dev was born into a Khatri family and was the younger brother of actor Rahul Dev. His father, Hari Dev Kaushal, was a decorated police officer in Delhi and won the Gallantry Award as well. Mukul Dev was married to Shilpa Dev and had a daughter named Sia. 

Cause Of Death

Mukul Dev passed away in the early hours of May 23, 2025. While the cause of his death has not been officially revealed at the time of publishing this article, it is believed that he was unwell for a brief period.
