Top BPT Colleges in Bangalore – Bachelor of Physiotherapy Course Details, Eligibility, Career Scope for 2024

Physiotherapy is a field of medicine concerned with diagnosing and treating pain and restricted movement that has occurred due to aging, injury, environmental factors such as occupational hazards or bad posture etc.

Physiotherapy emphasizes on using physical therapy for treatment as opposed to prescribing medicines that are to be ingested or injected. Physiotherapists relieve pain and enhance movement by using massages, exercises, manual therapy and electro-physical modalities.

They manage to do so using their knowledge of the human anatomy alongside their in-depth knowledge of the musculoskeletal makeup of the human body. Earlier, physiotherapy was not seen as a major field of medicine but rather as a peripheral field; however as technology and research is advancing, physiotherapy is being considered a significant field of medicine.

What is Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT):

Bachelor in Physiotherapy (BPT) is an undergraduate level course that trains students by familiarizing them with anatomy and mainly by giving them extensive musculoskeletal knowledge, i.e., knowledge of the human body’s bones, muscles and nerves and the way they interact with each other.

This can help them to understand a patient’s medical history and to examine their range of motor function, balance and coordination. The course further teaches students about a variety of ailments that may result in limited motor function or may affect balance and coordination so they can diagnose the source of the problem.

Finally, this course teaches students to employ different techniques of physiotherapy such as physical therapy and electrotherapy to develop a treatment plan for the patient’s ailment.

Overall, Bachelor of Physiotherapy course trains students to be qualified physiotherapists who can diagnose and treat muscle pains and other such issues that fall within the scope of a physiotherapists field.

Depending on the ailment that the patient is suffering from, Physiotherapists may be required to work with a team of doctors, nurses, social workers, speech-language therapists and trainers.

Therefore, not only is this course highly technical, but it also requires students to possess excellent interpersonal skills so they can work as part of a team. Moreover, as physiotherapy relies on physical techniques, professionals in this field are also required to have good stamina and fitness so they can help patients to do the prescribed exercises.
