The Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced the launch of a new e-Zero FIR initiative aimed at expediting action against cyber financial crimes. Under this system, any complaint involving cheating of over ₹10 lakh, registered through the 1930 cybercrime helpline or the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP), will be automatically converted into a First Information Report (FIR). This move is part of a pilot project launched in Delhi by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, and is expected to be rolled out nationwide.

Shah, in a post on X, emphasized that the new mechanism will drastically improve the speed of investigation, helping swiftly identify and prosecute cybercriminals. The government aims to enhance the country’s cybersecurity framework and build a “cyber-secure Bharat.” The e-Zero FIR system is also intended to make recovery of defrauded money easier for victims and enable efficient legal action across jurisdictions.
An official statement highlighted that this initiative will electronically register FIRs regardless of the territorial location of the crime. Complaints lodged with the NCRP or via the 1930 helpline will be automatically routed to Delhi’s e-Crime Police Station if they involve losses above ₹10 lakh. The Zero FIRs will then be sent to the respective jurisdictional cybercrime police stations, and complainants must visit within three days to convert them into regular FIRs.
Integrated Cybercrime Reporting System Aligned with New Criminal Laws for Faster Justice
The initiative integrates systems like the I4C’s NCRP, Delhi Police’s e-FIR platform, and the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) maintained by the NCRB. It is aligned with the new criminal laws, specifically provisions under Section 173 (1) and 1(ii) of the Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita. The Delhi Police and I4C have collaborated to ensure that e-FIRs are efficiently registered and transferred for timely investigation.
