In Bengaluru, Uber starts cab services to travel with pets | Technology News

ravelling with pets is still a hassle in India, where most auto-rickshaws and cabs downright cancel the ride the moment they see a furry friend with you. Uber has now come up with a solution by introducing Uber Pet, a first-of-its-kind pet-friendly ride-hailing service in Bengaluru, which is likely to be expanded to other cities soon.

This reserve-only service allows riders to pre-book a cab for travelling with their furry friends, which could be to a pet clinic or a favourite cafe. The booking can be done anywhere between 60 minutes and 90 days in advance.

“We understand how important pets are to their families and including them in our outings is essential. Uber Pet is our effort to make travel more accessible and convenient for pet owners and their companions. Our aim is to provide a seamless experience for pet parents while also creating additional earning opportunities for drivers, allowing everyone to include their beloved pets in their journeys,” said Shweta Mantri, head, Rider Verticals, Uber India and South Asia.

To pre-book a cab, users need to enter their address, select Uber Pet as the cab type, and then enter additional details regarding the trip.

While the ride can be cancelled for free prior to 60 minutes of travel, cancellations within 60 minutes will cost Rs 60. When compared to a regular ride on an Uber Premier, an Uber Pet ride will be slightly on the expensive side, which, according to the company, will offer additional earning opportunities for drivers on the Uber platform.
