Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano: The two women fighters who landed 541 punches on the undercard fight – 444 more than Tyson, Paul | Sport-others News

Amanda Serrano landed 324 punches – the most blows in women’s boxing history fighting on the undercard to Tyson vs Paul for the super lightweight title. But the winner was Irishwoman Katie Taylor, who landed 217 punches, for a combined count of 541, that’s 444 more than Jake Paul and Mike Tyson managed.

It inspired the BBC to lead with, “Before the stupidity in Texas, however, came the sublime when Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano battled out another classic. Irishwoman Taylor – who beat the Puerto Rican in 2022 – edged another close win.
The scorecard will split opinion, but the sight of a bloodied Serrano throwing hands despite a ghastly cut and Taylor admirably weathering the storm somewhat saved the event.”

After the conclusion of 10 rounds, all three judges scored the fight 95-94 for Taylor – a second straight controversial decision over Serrano. However, it got raves from many watching, with Magic Johnson posting, “I just watched one of the greatest championship fights I’ve ever seen between Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor! 🔥 It was action-packed right from the first round and both women came to fight. Congratulations to Taylor on winning a tough fight, even though I thought Serrano was the winner!”

Netflix said “50 million households globally” watched Taylor beat Serrano and it will “likely” go down as “the most watched professional women’s sporting event in US history”. However, women’s football World Cup has posted bigger numbers.

Amidst Serrano’s flurry, Taylor connected with a hard headbutt in Round 4, opening a cut above Serrano’s right eye. Taylor’s head would connect with the same area several times, opening the cut wider calling upon the referee to have the doctor verify that Serrano was OK, CBS reported. She later posted a gnarly image of herself on social media.

Post the fight, she said, “I know the judges were going to be a little bit shady. I went up three divisions and dared to be great tonight. I’m the featherweight champion of the world and want to be great. I’m a featherweight, man. Every time you get a cut, it bothers you.”

Festive offer

Taylor took her second win against the same opponent with whom she’s started a wonderful rivalry since Vegas last. “We trained so hard … any punch can change a fight in boxing, she’s a hard puncher and absolute warrior. I don’t care if the commentary team or crowd disagree with the result.”

The duo are reported to earn the biggest purses in women’s boxing history. According to Boxing Kingdom, Katie Taylor is expected to make $6.1 million for the rematch. Serrano, who works with Jake Paul’s MVP responded by saying her purse was bigger, though that number hasn’t been revealed yet.
