Liverpool vs Manchester United: Ruben Amorim admits team is ‘too anxious, too afraid’ | Football News

Ahead of a Liverpool-Manchester United derby, Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim admitted that his team was in a bad state with a trip to Anfield coming up. Manchester United have lost five of their last six games in the English Premier League and go up against the table toppers in Arne Slot’s Liverpool.

Amorim spoke about how he was when he arrived at United and how he is now after a string of defeats.

“You can see in my face, you can compare it to the way when I arrive and now,” said Amorim, who has lost five of his eight Premier League games in charge. “Of course there is a lot of pressure. For me, it’s the pride and also the performance. It’s harder when we don’t perform well.”

Amorim also spoke about how United needed leaders on the pitch to step up and take the team out of the feeling of anxiousness and fear that they were feeling. Under Amorim, United have shown susceptibility to freekicks and goals in transition.

“We need the leaders to step up to help the other guys and I’m the most responsible person here to improve the performances,” he added. “You can see the players are trying, sometimes too anxious, too afraid to play football because this is a difficult moment and we will help the players to be better.”

Liverpool on the other hand have utilised their core players playing for a contract, to the utmost with Trent Alexander Arnold and Virgil Van Djik stepping up in defence and Mohamed Salah already botching 30 goals and assists combined with less than half the EPL season gone by.
