Most IPL sixes: Mumbai Indians stalwart Rohit Sharma is closing in on becoming the first Indian batter to hit 300 sixes in the Indian Premier League during the IPL 2025 season.
With three matches left in the group stage for MI, Rohit is three maximums short of etching his name in an exclusive club. The 38-year-old Rohit could then join West Indies legend Chris Gayle, who remains the only batter to have slammed 300 maximums. In his illustrious IPL career, Gayle walloped a staggering 357 sixes in only 141 matches. Gayle also holds the record for the most sixes hit in a single season. Gayle smashed 59 sixes in 2013, bettering his 51 sixes from the previous edition in 2012. Interestingly, 127 of Gayle’s sixes came at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Playing predominantly as an Impact Sub this season, Rohit has struck 17 innings in 10 matches while posing a 155-plus strike, the best for him in any season. Last year, Rohit smashed 23 sixes, the best for him since smashing 28 maximums in IPL 2013.
Having made his debut in IPL 2008 with the now-defunct Deccan Chargers, Rohit amassed over 1000 runs for the franchise and smashed 51 sixes in three seasons before joining MI in 2011.
Among active players, Rohit is followed by Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. Recently, KL Rahul became the 11th entrant in the 200-sixes club in the IPL. Rahul also became the fastest Indian to hit 200 sixes in the IPL, bettering Sanju Samson.
