Najafgarh shootings: Masterminds arrested after encounter with Delhi Police | Delhi News

The Delhi Police Special Cell arrested two alleged masterminds behind recent firing incidents targeting property dealers in Najafgarh following a shootout in Chhawla Saturday.
The police said they arrested Amit Dagar and his son Ankit after an exchange of gunfire near Urban Extension Road-II around 10 pm. Both men sustained bullet injuries to their legs during the operation before being taken into police custody, said the police.
According to the police, Amit is the brother of jailed gangster Om Parkash and is a part of Kala Jathedi’s gang. He was identified as the kingpin behind multiple shooting incidents in the Najafgarh area earlier this month.
The Special Cell team acted on a tip-off that the two men would pass through the UER-II road near Chhawla on Saturday. The officers attempted to stop the pair travelling on a scooter. “The accused tried to flee the spot, firing three rounds at the police party. Our team retaliated by firing five rounds in self-defence,” said Pranav Tayal, Additional Commissioner of Police (Special Cell).
The police recovered two sophisticated semi-automatic pistols, four live cartridges, and a stolen scooter from the two men. The scooter was reported stolen in August 2024. They also filed a case against the duo under sections 221 (criminal intimidation), 132 (assault on public servant), 109(1) (abetment), 3(5) (criminal conspiracy), and 317 (attempted murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaha Sanhita, along with sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.
The arrests are connected to two recent firing incidents that occurred on March 10 and March 16 in the Baba Haridas Nagar area. Dwarka district police teams previously arrested three shooters involved in these shootings, while the alleged masterminds remained at large until now.
Amit has a lengthy criminal record with multiple cases, including illegal arms possession, and was wanted in connection with four recent cases involving criminal intimidation, assault, and illegal weapons, said the police.
