Punjab, Haryana on rain alert: IMD predicts thunderstorms, lightning in several areas | Chandigarh News

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow alerts for rain in parts of Punjab and Haryana until Thursday noon. Thunderstorms, lightning, moderate rain and wind speeds of 30 to 40 kmph are expected in several areas during this period.

An alert for rain and strong winds has been issued in 11 districts of Punjab – Mansa, Sangrur, Barnala, Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, S A S Nagar, Bathinda, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Faridkot, Ludhiana, and Chandigarh.

In Punjab the areas affected by thunderstorms/lightning with moderate rain included Sardulgarh, Budhlada, Lehra, Mansa, Sunam, Sangrur, Barnala, Tapa, Dhuri, Malerkotla, Moonak, Patran, Samana, Patiala, Nabha, Rajpura, Fatehgarh Sahib, Amloh, Mohali, Talwandi Sabo, Bathinda, Gidderbaha, Rampura Phul, Jaitu, Muktsar, Bassi Pathana, Khanna, Payal, Chandigarh, Kharar, Khamanon, Ludhiana East, Chamkaur Sahib, Samrala, Rup Nagar, Bagha Purana, Faridkot, Moga, Firozpur, Shahkot, Nihal Singhwala, Raikot, Jagraon, Ludhiana West, Phillaur, Nakodar, Balachaur, Nawanshahr, Anandpur Sahib, Garhshankar. Also, in several such areas, wind speed 30-40 kmph is expected.

In Haryana, areas affected by thunderstorms/lightning with moderate rain included Ballabgarh, Sohna, Gurugram, Jhajjar, Bahadurgarh, Berikhas, Sampla, Rohtak, Faridabad, Kharkhoda, Sonipat, Ganaur, Samalkha, Bapouli, Gohana, Israna, Safidon, Panipat, Kaithal, Sirsa, Tohana, Ratia, Dabwali, Guhla, Pehowa, Ambala.

Light thunderstorms (wind speed 30-40 kmph) with lightning is expected in Nuh, Palwal, Taoru, Ballabgarh, Sohna, Gurugram, Charkhi Dadri, Bhiwani, Rewari, Pataudi, Kosli, Matanhale, Jhajjar, Bahadurgarh, Berikhas, Rohtak, Bawani Khera, Hansi, Narnaund, Nathusari Chopta, Ellenabad, Fatehabad, Rania, Faridabad, Bapouli, Gharaunda, Karnal, Meham, Gohana, Julana, Israna, Safidon, Jind, Panipat, Asandh, Kaithal, Narwana, Sirsa, Tohana, Kalayat, Ratia, Dabwali, Thanesar, Guhla, Pehowa, Shahabad, Ambala, Kalka, Narayangarh, Panchkula.

Meanwhile, due to pre-monsoon rains and strong winds in North India, there has been relief from the heat. An advisory has been issued regarding rainfall in the hilly areas.

Yellow alert in 9 districts of Himachal Pradesh

In Himachal, except for Una, Bilaspur, and Hamirpur, a yellow alert has been issued in nine districts. In the past 24 hours, the rainfall has been recorded in several parts of Himachal are as follows: Kotkhai 17.1 mm, Narkanda 13.5mm, Jattan Barrage 10.8mm, Nadaun 7 mm, Sarahan 6 mm, Sundernagar 5.8 mm, Rohru 4 mm, HMO Shillaro 3.8 mm, Berthin Agro 0.5 mm, and Barthlin 0.4 mm.

For the first time this season, the IMD has issued an orange alert for rain. Residents need to be cautious. An advisory has been issued for locals and tourists, advising them not to go to high altitudes, landslide-prone areas, and near rivers and streams. On Wednesday evening, strong winds blew in the eastern Malwa region of Punjab, and light rain changed the weather in some places.

Over the next three to four days, conditions are favourable for the southwest monsoon to advance into the remaining parts of the northern Arabian Sea, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, most parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh, some parts of western Uttar Pradesh, some parts of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and the northern parts of Punjab and Haryana.
