Ranbir Kapoor reveals complex relationship with late dad Rishi Kapoor

Ranbir Kapoor is not on social media and is not one to stay in the limelight for his words. He rarely indulges in interviews, but he’s made a rare appearance on a podcast with Nikhil Kamath, and the star has opened up about his complex relationship with his father, late Rishi Kapoor.

In conversation with Nikhil, on the podcast, Ranbir remembered his dynamic with Rishi Kapoor and said, “My father was a very short-tempered man, but he was a good man. He was someone who really loved his food, loved his work, loved his family, and loved his alcohol. He was a very open person.”

When Nikhil asked Ranbir about his father’s stern behaviour, the star revealed, “I never saw his eye colour. I was always (gestures at looking down). In Animal, my character was obsessed with his dad, in real life I was more scared of my dad.”

But Ranbir was quick to point out that Rishi was as kind as he was tough. Ranbir said, “He never shouted at us, he never raised a hand, but just being around him was… his temperament was so volatile… it scared me.”

Ranbir explained that he used to be afraid of the altercations between his parents. He revealed, “Anyone who speaks loudly since childhood, it started disturbing me. My parents went through sh**loads of fights… We lived in a bungalow, I’ve spent most of my childhood on stairs listening to their fights. I was always a little scared, I was always on the edge.”

He explained that his parents fought and loved like any other couple. He said, “They were going through a rough patch, they both loved each other and had a lovely companionship. When my father was suffering from cancer and he was abroad, I saw the kind of selfless service that my mother was doing for him. That kind of love was something that I couldn’t have imagined.”

Apart from this, Ranbir has also spoken about his upbringing, his relationship with Alia Bhatt, and much more.
