Shabana Azmi calls for dismantling patriarchy after Kolkata rape case
Shabana Azmi has voiced her strong condemnation of the recent Kolkata rape and murder case, calling the incident “extremely dangerous.” While attending an event in Pune, the Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani star highlighted the urgency of dismantling deep-rooted patriarchy in society. Azmi lamented the lack of significant progress since the 2012 Nirbhaya case, despite various efforts, including the formation of the Justice Verma Committee.
Shabana Azmi emphasized that it is embarrassing and unacceptable that such heinous acts continue to occur. She stated that society must stop treating women as commodities and take concrete steps to eliminate patriarchy. Her comments echo the sentiments of other celebrities who have also expressed their anger and disappointment over the incident.
Other Bollywood stars, including Kareena Kapoor Khan, Preity Zinta, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Hrithik Roshan, have also spoken out, demanding stronger action to ensure women’s safety. They stressed the need for harsh punishments for perpetrators and called for a societal shift to prevent such tragedies in the future.
