Shweta Tiwari says every time TRPs of TV shows went down, Ekta Kapoor would say, ‘kill someone’ | Television News

Watching the hero of a TV show flying to the moon on a scooter or the actresses turning into an insect has become common these days. Several such clips go viral and get trolled for their illogical storylines. Industry veteran Shweta Tiwari, who has acted in several popular television series including Kasautii Zindagii Kay and Parvarrish, shared the reasons behind such twists and turns. While talking about the many aspects of these shows, Shweta also shared her views on the kind of daily soaps that are being made today.

Talking about the illogical twists and turns on Indian daily soaps, Shweta Tiwari gave an example of her popular series Kasautii Zindagii Kay. She told Bollywood Hungama, “We used to have episodes for an entire week ready. Suddenly, one day we reached the set and we were informed we are shooting tomorrow’s telecast. I was like ‘why are we shooting tomorrow’s telecast? Don’t we already have everything ready for an entire week?’ I was told everything was scrapped, and Ekta had said Anurag (Kasautii’s main lead) is dying. I was given my script and I found out it was all about Karwa Chauth and then suddenly Aparna killed Anurag. ‘I asked wasn’t Aparna a nice woman?’ But these were the kind of twists and turns we used to have.”

She added, “Then once we had a scene where Aparna has kidnapped Prerna and she has died and then in a random bar, there is this woman called Maya, who is a lookalike of Prerna and she brings the bar dancer as the fake Prerna. I was like, ‘What? I have a double role? I am going to be a bar dancer?’ So I was shooting as Maya and I made peace with the fact that there are two different women, Prerna and Aparna, who look the same. Then at the end, they revealed, they were both the same person. I was like, ‘What?’ How is it possible the same woman is in the hospital and then also dancing at the bar? These are the kind of twists and turns that were introduced at the end moment.”

“It was all about TRP, every time Ekta felt the TRP wasn’t good, she said ‘kill someone.’ Every time the TRP was any less than 32, she used to be like ‘TRP girgayi kisi ko maaro’”, concluded Shweta.

Shweta, however, thinks the shows made then were better than today’s daily soaps. When asked if she finds today’s shows better, she immediately said, “Shows were better back then. What are they even making lately? Nowadays someone is randomly getting locked in a safe. Nothing they do today seems real. You can’t even relate to it. Even back then, when we used to talk about losing Rs 500 crores randomly in a serial, they weren’t real, but still people could relate to those things. Lately, they are showing someone is getting bit by a snake, she still manages to survive. They are flying to the moon on a scooter. There are two people who are flying holding a kite. God knows what is happening. I can’t do all this.”

The actress stressed on the fact on how the Indian daily soaps have failed to progress with time. “Whatever scenes, and dialogues they give me now, I be like, ‘I have said and done all this 20 years ago, why am I doing this again?’ People’s thought process has changed”, said Shweta.

Another favourite topic of discussion among people is ‘why do these TV actors go to sleep with makeup on?’ She explained, “I totally agree, nobody wears makeup to sleep. But, if we will show the real face without makeup, nobody will want to see saliva coming out of your mouth and your messy eyes. They all want to see beautiful faces. Another problem with television is they shoot back-to-back scenes. So now you have just shot for a wedding scene and then suddenly you are shooting for a sleeping scene, and then again you are expected to continue with the wedding scene. So you don’t have the time to take that makeup off, do that scene and then put back your makeup to shoot another scene. So to even save time, actors sleep with makeup on. Then again they just change their clothes and carry on with the next scene.”

Shweta Tiwari, who has been part of several films and television series as well as reality shows such as Bigg Boss and Khatron Ke Khiladi, was last seen in the show Main Hoon Aparajita. She will also be seen in the Ajay Devgn starrer Singham Again.
