Trump renames ‘Gulf of Mexico’ as ‘Gulf of America,’ says ‘Indelible part of US’ | World News
US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Sunday to rename the ‘Gulf of Mexico’ as the ‘Gulf of America’ and declared February 9 as the ‘Gulf of America Day’.
Aboard the Air Force One while on the way to attend the Super Bowl, President Trump stated that the proclamation of renaming to ‘Gulf of America’ “restores American pride in the history of American greatness”.
The White House in a post on X informed that Air Force One, while on the way to the Super Bowl in New Orleans, flew over the international waters, “the first time in history flying over the recently renamed Gulf of America”.

According to the executive order posted on the White House website, it defines the renamed ‘Gulf of America’ as “the U.S. Continental Shelf area bounded on the northeast, north, and northwest by the States of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida and extending to the seaward boundary with Mexico and Cuba in the area formerly named as the Gulf of Mexico.”
The order directs the US Secretary of Interior Doug Burgum to implement it in 30 days and complete the renaming as the official transition. According to reports, the US Coast Guard has already begun using the ‘Gulf of America’ as the renamed version.

President Trump, while stating that the renaming would restore American pride, said “It is fitting and appropriate for our great Nation to come together and commemorate this momentous occasion and the renaming of the Gulf of America,” Fox 5 DC reported.
Trump has been targeting Mexico since he took oath of office for the second term on January 20 and had imposed a 25% trade tariffs on Mexican goods, only to be paused for a month after interacting with the country’s President Claudia Sheinbaum.
Trump has accused Mexico of drug smuggling and illegal immigration into the US.
