Usman Khawaja hits first double century in first Test against Sri Lanka
Aussie opener Usman Khawaja struck his maiden double hundred in Test cricket on day two of the first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle.
He got there with a single off Prabath Jayasuriya. Earlier, Khawaja shared a 266-run third-wicket stand with Steve Smith, in which both batters completed hundreds.
Khawaja is the first Australian to score a double century in Asia since Jason Gillespie’s 201 against Bangladesh.
Before him, only a handful of Australians had achieved this feat: Matthew Hayden (201* vs. India in Chennai, 2001), Dean Jones (210 vs. India in the 1986 Madras tied Test), Greg Chappell (235 vs. Pakistan in Faisalabad, 1980), and Mark Taylor (334* vs. Pakistan in Peshawar, 1998).
Khawaja is also the only Australian man to hit a double century in Sri Lanka.
