With Eyes On Oympics 2036, India Bids For 2030 Commonwealth Games At Ahmedabad! – Trak.in

India has officially submitted an expression of interest to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, positioning itself as a strong contender for the centenary edition of the multi-sports event. This move is seen as a strategic step in India’s ambition to host the 2036 Olympic Games.

India’s Previous Experience and Optimism
India successfully hosted the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. Despite the initial challenges, including allegations of corruption and mismanagement, the event concluded with positive feedback for its sporting achievements and organizational execution.
Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President P.T. Usha confirmed the submission, expressing confidence in India’s proposal. “We have sent an expression of interest and are hopeful the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) will consider our proposal,” she stated.
Challenges Facing the Commonwealth Games
Recent editions of the Commonwealth Games have faced difficulties securing hosts. The 2026 Games were initially awarded to Victoria, Australia, but the state withdrew citing budget concerns. Subsequently, Scotland’s Glasgow stepped in to organize a scaled-down version.
Similarly, the 2022 Games were relocated to Birmingham after Durban, South Africa pulled out for financial reasons. With the Games struggling to attract bidders, India’s expression of interest could offer a stable and well-equipped alternative.
Future Ambitions: The Road to 2036 Olympics
India’s bid for the Commonwealth Games aligns with its broader aspirations to host the 2036 Olympics. The city of Ahmedabad, located in the western state of Gujarat, has been identified as the focal point for the Olympic bid, with plans to develop world-class infrastructure.
What Lies Ahead
The Commonwealth Games Federation has set a March 31 deadline for expressions of interest. The final decision will depend on various factors, including India’s ability to demonstrate financial preparedness, logistical planning, and infrastructural readiness.
Hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games would not only enhance India’s global sports reputation but also serve as a crucial trial run for its Olympic aspirations. As the world’s most populous country, India is ready to take center stage in the global sporting arena.
