WTC 2025 points table: South Africa beat Sri Lanka, get one step closer to reach WTC final | Cricket News

After their impressive 109-run win over Sri Lanka, South Africa has pipped Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table. South Africa are now just one win away clinching next year’s WTC final spot.

Keshav Maharaj was the hero for the home, team who picked up five wickets as South Africa secured a 109-run victory over Sri Lanka on the last day of the second test at St George’s Park on Monday and a 2-0 sweep of the series.

Maharaj finished with figures of 5-76 as South Africa took 70 minutes to dismiss Sri Lanka for 238, taking the five wickets required for victory in double quick time.

The clash had been set up for a thrilling finale as both teams required a win to keep them in contention for a place in next June’s World Test Championship final.

South Africa has now consolidated their hopes of qualifying for a first WTC final by moving to the top of the standings with two more home tests to come against Pakistan starting on December 26.
